Diary ~ A day with Mark and Gregoire for Carmina Burana

january, 2007

I started working on the Carmina Burana piece today, and with that end in mind had Gregoire and his boyfriend Mark come by today to pose; I did several drawings of different poses based on the "
Tempus es iocundum" song, which when translated runs as follows:

This is the joyful time,
O maidens,
rejoice with them,
young men!

Oh, oh, oh, Oh! Oh! Oh!
I am bursting out all over!
I am burning all over with first love!
t New, new love is what I am dying of!

I am heartened
by my promise,
I am downcast by my refusal

In the winter
man is patient,
the breath of spring
makes him lust.

My virginity
makes me frisky,
my simplicity
holds me back.

Come, my mistress,
with joy,
v come, come, my pretty,
I am dying!

Oh, oh, oh, Oh! Oh! Oh!
I am bursting out all over!
I am burning all over with first love!
New, new love is what I am dying of!

I did several quick sketches of diffent poses, and than did the drawing below, which is the first draft for the first in this series. I am going to change the expression on the resisting boy - he should be playfully resisting, not fearfull, I realized upon some introspection, but I am otherwise very pleased with this drawing.

The statue in the background will probably be cupid in the final drawing, as the mischevious god who overcomes all such resistance. Afterwards, I had a long photoshoot with my models, as a friend of mine had called earlier and wanted to hang out with me while I drew; we had a very fun photo shoot, examples of which follow below.

These were just some of the photos from the shoot. More follow on the next page.
