This card is the Four of Flints, which corresponds to the Four of Swords in the standard tarot.
Here Quetzalcoatl, the Plumed Serpent, the lord of light and life's breath, sits upon his bier, wrapped in the eagle-down flecked ropes of the dead. After he had been tricked by the dark magician Tezcatlipoca into drunkenness and incest, he took himself to the Western Sea and immolated himself upon a bier of fragrant wood and quetzal feathers, from whence he arose to become the morning star. Here, three flints adorn the paper banners placed by tradition with the bodies of the dead, while a fourth is bound to the wooden bundle. An offering of rubber, jewels, and a quetzal feather sits at his feet. The morning star rises above him, and the dawn breaks over the grey seas in the distance.
This card represents retreat, vigilance, the moment between actions, the instant before the revelation or enlightenment. It further represents contemplation, redemption, and sacrifice. Reversed, this card signifies precaution, circumspection, and wise administration.
