This card is the Page of Staffs, which corresponds to the Page of Wands in the standard tarot. Here, a page stands in the desert, leaning upon a flowering turquoise staff. He is crowned with a deer head, for deer in Aztec thought pertain to the summer, the desert, and dryness. His skin is painted red, like the King of Staffs and the God of the Sun, Tonatiuh. He also wears the symbols of the god in his costume.
This card refers to a free spirit, an individual not weighed down by the demands of the material. This spirit might be that of the querent, or of another person who will come into his life. The page brings a creative impetus to a relationship, which can be exhilirating and life changing. He is an individual of great dreams and childlike imagination, but will perhaps lack the ability to develop such dreams and nurture them to maturity. He is a catalyst of creativity and change, and if a lover, a person of great passion, enthusiasm, and faithfulness. The Page of Staffs is ethical, imaginative, and beautiful. The card can also appear to signal that it is time for the imaginative and creative impulses of the querent to be released, for they have been too long bottled up. This card announces to the querent to abandon fear and discover a world of creativity and freedom.
