This is the Queen of Staffs, which corresponds to the Queen of Wands in the standard tarot. Here, the queen is Chantico, goddess of fire. Her eyes are painted with a crimson mask, for she sees the world only through a veil of flame. Her hair is red and vibrant like fire, her skin golden like a candle's heat. She wears a jaguars paw as an earring, for the jaguar is the symbol of darkness, and it is she which drives darkness away. Her robe is white, for this is the color of the soul purified by flame, and her skirt is white with red stripes, for this is the symbol of sacrifice. She sits on a flaming throne of turquoise, for turquoise is the color at the center of the brightest flames. At her feet is a rubber ball topped with paper bows, eagle feathers, and an eagle's claw; this is her special symbol, and represents the earth giving up its bounty. On the steps sits a bundle of firewood, a rubber ball topped with a precious quetzal feather, a bloody maguey thorn, and a woven grass ball pierced with more maguey thorns, These other offerings are the standard gifts offered by the penitent to the gods, and burned at sacred alters; it is Chanitco who consumes these gifts first, and who is thus the intermediary between man and the gods. She sits in a dark temple, the walls of which are adorned with a painting of a jeweled and flowered chain. This card represents a dark woman with a brilliant soul, a friendly, loving, honorable woman. It represents purification, offerings and rebirth through destruction. If the card appears next to one which signifies a man, she is well disposed towards him; if a woman, she is well disposed towards he who asks the questions. This card also represents artistic enterprise, creativity, and the illumination of dark ideas through loving inquiry.
