This card is the Ten of Staffs, which corresponds to the Ten of Wands in the standard tarot. Here, Tezcatlipoca, the Smoking Mirror, god of wizards, dark magic, deception, violent conflict, and uncertain futures, carries ten staffs, half thorned and half jeweled. His face is painted in the black and yellow stripes which are his symbol, and on his brow is the smoking mirror, the looking glass in which he sees into the hearts of men. His foot is also a smoking mirror, for at the dawn of time he battled and defeated the Earth Monster, but she ripped his foot from him before her final defeat. He strides across her body in this card, and her snout and back are pierced with a pair of obsidian blades, a bone dagger, and a turquoise hatchet, all of which are adorned with gold and flowers. The god is oppressed by the weight of his cargo, and it is uncertain weather they bring fortune or calamity to the querent.
This card represents oppression, perfidy, and disguise, but it can also signify fortune, gain, and success; such success will always be ill bought, however. If the Nine of Flints follows, all success is nullified, and a law-suit is certain to follow. There will be certain loss. When reversed, the card represents intrigue and difficulties for the querent.
