Felix D'Eon Diary ~ More work on "Taverna July, 2007 |
|
I worked some more on "Taverna" today; its been a bit of a challenge, but I think I figured it out. A description of the process follows below.
The drawing above was the first study I did for this drawing (this drawing is available for sale by the way, at this link "Taverna Study")I thought it looked great, but than realized that the figures were all too low, and didn't allow for movement away from them - they needed to be variegated a little. As the drawing above was meant to be a fully rendered and finished drawing, and I had drawn it on a sheet of paper that was cut to scale (much larger than the above), I cut it down and started a small sketch of the whole compossition, which follows below. I decided to make the figure putting down the card be holding hands with another dancing figure, who would be pulling him up to a standing possition; this links the foreground group with a group of background dancers. I also originally drew the figures to close to the side, and left no room for the waiter, who I included below. Then, because of the standing figures in the center, I had to redraw the boy nuzzling his friends neck to the left on the drawing above, and put them seated on the floor. Since the drawing should also be a little erotic, I took the opportunity to change their pose; I think the one boy will now be fondeling the other. On the table behind the card players a couple will be engaged in sex, lightly sketched below, and the far left will be a group of boys playing musical instruments and dancing, which I have not yet started to figure out.
Now that I know what the poses are more or less, I had my brother and Cayden model for the new poses; a photo and two of the drawings follow below.
In the photo above, you can see me drawing Marcelito and Cayden; the drawing I did is below.
I did this drawing before I decided that this couple should be a little more erotically engaged with each other. This study will not be used in the final drawing; I will re-draw it later with the boys in essentially the same pose, but with the boy kissing the others neck reaching down to fondle him with his free hand.
This is the new drawing as it appeared at the end of the day yesterday, using the new studies I just made as guides. When I re-draw the study above, I will be able to add those figures to the drawing below as well.
And above is a close-up of the drawing as it currently appears. Over the next week or so I will develop the other characters and start laying in the background; this will then be used as the study for a large-scale and fully rendered drawing. I'll keep you posted as work progresses, Felix
