Diary ~ Drawing the "Nude Boy on a Trapeze"

July, 2007

I finished a drawing today of a nude boy on a trapeze, the boy in question being Cayden. It was something of a challenge for both of us, as I had never attempted such a piece before. I had him model for the drawing in parts, and as the boy in the drawing is upside down, I drew him right-side up and then flipped the drawing when it was finished. Anyway, photos from our session, with explanations follow below.

The photos above and below show Cayden holdeing onto a stick and leaning from behind on a stool, while lit from below (which, when I turn the drawing upside down, will suggest that he is in fact lit from above. At the moment I am working on his legs and rear; later I put the light on top of the stool to draw his back.

For his feet, which are pointed up, I inverted the drawing and had him hold his legs in the air with his toes pointed.

And here is a picture I included just because it was pretty.

Below, Cayden is checking out the halfway finished drawing

And finally, the piece as it appeared at the end

It was a challenge and a bit of a puzzle to draw, but I love the result. On the next page follow some photos of Cayden taken during breaks,

Felix
